Registered Nurses (RN) for QMA classroom instructionsand practicum, and the License PracticalNurse (LPN) for the practicum supervision only.
The Qualified Medication Aide Program prepares and provides students with the knowledge and skills to become a Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) to administer approved medication under the supervision of a licensed nurse in long-term care and assisted living facilities. Students will be taught body systems, check vital signs, medication dosages, administration routes, observed and report side effects of medications, and proper documentation. The instructor will discuss with students the QMA Scope of Practice, legal, ethical, and resident's rights. The program consists of a required 100 hours of which 60 hours will be classroom instructions and 40 hours practicum. The class will meet for 8 hours a day twice a weekfor 4 weeks and after classroom completion, students will attend 40 hours practicum at an ISDH approved practicum site.
The applicant should be at least (18) years of age, must pass the enrollment pre-test by demonstrating the abilityto read and write English,and the ability to perform basic math subtraction addition, multiplication, and division. Proof of High School diploma or GED, proof of completion of an Indiana Nurse Aide Training Course, and the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certificate must be ingood standingin the Indiana Nurse Aide Registry. Proof of working1000 hours as a CNA within the past 2 years. Need to have physical and TB tests done and able to pass the statewide background check.
