Registered Nurse
Our Qualified Medication Aide program (QMA) is 6 week in length. The program is regulated and approved by the Indiana State Department of Health which requires 60 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of hands on clinical experience.This course is designed to provide the student with knowledge and skills to competently administer medications per the physician's order and under direct supervision of a license nurse. Some topics included in this program will include pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, medication administration, and infection control. Week 1-4 This portion of the program is delivered online to give you the opportunity to learn at your own pace. Upon admission, you will receive the course syllabus and due dates for assignments. You will work at your own speed as you are guided through the program. Upon completion of week 4 and all classroom assignments, and quizzes, there will be a 2 day in person class session for lab experience. During these 2 days, skills will be checked off and final exam administered. With successful completion of the classroom session, the next phase of your training will be the clinical experience. Week 5-6 Clinical experience is week 5 and 6. As mandated by Indiana Department of Health, you will participate in 40 hours of clinical training. This portion of the program will occur at a long term care facility. During this time, you will administer medications and minor treatments under the direct supervision of a license nurse. At the completion of the clinical experience, you will be confident in your skills learned and ready to take the state board exam for certification as a Qualified Medication Aide employable in nursing homes, and assisted living facilities.
The listed prerequisites are for indivduals enrolled in Qualified Medication training: Must be at least 18 years of age, Possess a High School Diploma/Equivalent,good standing as a Certified Nurse Aide on the Indiana Aide Registry, worked a minimum of 1,000 hours as a CNA within the last 24 months; Currentphysical and PPD (within the past 12 months) and the ability to read, write and speak English; perform basic math skills (addition, subtraction, division and multiplicaiton)
